Melba Louise Brown (Sasser), Class of '62

I attended BHS in the first grade. There were very few elementary schools in Columbus at that time. I then transferred to a newly built elementary school in my area and went back to BHS in the 8-12 grades. I had many memorable times at Baker each year I attended. I guess the students and the faculty were what I enjoyed and remember the most. After High School I was married for about two years, divorced and then married my present husband (He went to Jordan) and we have been happily married for 35 years. We have three children 2 girls and a boy. All three are married and my two daughters Vicki and Kristina live in Jacksonville, Fla. and San Diego, Ca. My son Todd lives about 10 miles from us. We spend a lot of time traveling to Florida and San Diego. We only have 1 grandchild, Christopher. I want many more. We both retired early and live out in the country in a Historic Home built in 1870 and we love it. We had fun remodeling our home and landscaping our 10 acres of land. Harris County is a great place to live when you retire. I retired from General Motors after working there 32 years. I loved my job auditing General Motors dealers throughout Georgia, but I was on the road a lot and missed my family at times. I worked with little cheerleaders when my husband coached football and baseball for Little League. I have done a lot of volunteer work since I left BHS. We are still traveling a lot and enjoy going on cruises. We go the Auburn Football games and to the Atlanta Braves baseball games. We have a motor home and usually take it to the games. I see Coach Ball once in a while as he lives near us and we shop at the same grocery store. I run into fellow students in Columbus sometimes. I saw Bruce Sanborn at the dentist office, David Kirk at the mall, Phyllis Smith Denson at the doctor's office, Richie Moore at the Flea Market, and others at routine places. I got e-mails from Colby Mosier, Curly Harmon, Cissy Whitt, Diane Warren and others and all are doing great. BHS has influenced my life greatly and some of the best years of my life were spent there.
