Catherine “Cathy” Anne (Fitch) Franklin At Baker: I was an ARMY BRAT. Daddy was a helicopter and fixed wing pilot and instructor,we moved a lot! Daddy was transferred back to Ft. Benning,GA and our family moved to 2452 Walker St. -April 1960 - the move was hard both in school and in the making new friends area. How do you make new friends when you are shy and you had to do it some many times? I joined the Baptist Church in our area (what a surprise to find that Elaine Rathel was established in the church when I started to attend), continued my Senior Girl Scout activities through my remaining high school years - 8 years in Scouting - (leaders assistant for a Brownie troop at the MDS center in Columbus, summer day camp counselor, went to the Senior Scout Round-up in Button Bay, VT weeks after graduation (Herb Roberts sister was also in our group that represented Ft. Benning), joined clubs at Baker High, joined Benning Hills Teenage Club (I still enjoy dancing). Daddy was reassigned to Italy in September of 1961, my mother chose to stay in Columbus so I could graduate from Baker High. October of 1962, Daddy was reassigned to Ft. Sill, OK. Parents were glad that the family had stayed in Columbus. In Daddy’s absence, I helped my mother with my 4 younger sibling (who also graduated from Baker High in 72,73,74, and 75). Is that Baker High Spirit or what!! My parents still live in the Columbus area. WOW.... who wants to look back 42 years??!! Well, here goes!!!! Worked a few jobs in Columbus and Ft. Benning before moving to Atlanta, GA in September 1963. I worked in Atlanta for Southern Bell, then transferred backed to Columbus, GA . Married February 1964. I have 2 daughters that were born at Martin Army Hospital, December 1964 (Debra) and January 1966 (Christine). Moved and transferred with the Bell System to Burien, WA in April 1967. Moved and transferred, again, with the Bell System to Spokane, WA where my son, Michael, was born in March 1970. Moved again in 1972 to Lacey, WA (Nisqually Valley - 5 miles from Ft. Lewis, WA). Divorced in May 1976. I continued to live and to work in the Tacoma / Seattle - Bremerton, WA area. Married Michael Franklin in August 1989. Moved and transferred with U S WEST (telephone company) to Littleton, CO (20 miles Southwest of Denver) in July 1994 (to keep our jobs or be unemployed). Retired in February 2001 and husband retired July 2001 from QWEST (telephone company) each with 30 plus years. I did the usual things that a parent does for her children, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Sunday School teacher, homeroom mother and various other volunteer positions for church and community, while being a single mother of 3. I finished 2 years of college in 25 years (not bad!). My current hobby is taking horseback riding lessons, knitting fun scarves and various volunteer activities (church and community). We are a blended family with 6 children and 10 grandchildren. My son, Michael - 34, is a tool and dye journeyman at the Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA. He is still looking for Miss Right! My daughter, Christine, was killed in Colville, WA (5 miles from her home) September 3, 1998 at the age of 32 leaving behind 3 children (2 daughters and a son)and her husband. My eldest daughter, Debra -39, married with 3 daughters (twins 20 and 16). She and her husband work for the same Toyota dealership in Jacksonville, FL. My husband's children all live in Tacoma, WA. James - 34 married one son, Kristy - (32) divorced 1 daughter, Kara (30) 2 daughters. Through out the year, we travel to WA, CA, LA, GA and FL to visit family and friends.
