Michael R. Omelanuk, 1964 |
At Baker, Mike was a debater, co-editor of the yearbook, and on the student council. One of his favorite memories was the bell he rigged in Mr. Cunningham's desk on April Fool's Day - dismissed the whole hall early. He says he'll never forget his one encounter Mr. Boyle's paddle. He received his AB in journalism from the University of Georgia in '69 and an MBA from Augusta College in '75.
He's married to Norma Jean McCown, an Army nurse he met in the officers' club in Berlin, Germany. "The best thing that ever happened to me!" he says. They were married in Bangkok, Thailand, and have two daughters, Amy Lynn who's who is married with two children, and April Leigh, who's married with several grand-cats, and working for a Phoenix based internet provider
Mike was in human resources since leaving the Army in 1973 and has lived in Augusta, GA; Murray, KY; Houston, TX; Columbus, OH; Altavista, VA; and now Libertyville, IL a suburb north of Chicago. In January 2002, he retired from his job as an HR manager for the bulk chemicals division of Abbott Laboratories. He's trying to talk Norma into retirement, too, so he can move South and get warm again!
While waiting, he volunteers for Abbott's charitable foundation and the local blood bank, reads, and cruises the Internet.
Mike says he's still a nerd, still reads science fiction and still plays bridge.
