I played the trumpet in the band and was also a member of the ROTC battalion. I think I was the only bugler the ROTC battalion ever had. I think I enjoyed everything I did at Baker. The band trips to the Gator Bowl were memorable.
I entered the service a year after graduation and spent 27 years being a soldier. I retired as a Sergeant Major spending most of my time in Airborne/Ranger and Special Forces units. Best job in the Army. I am presently teaching Junior ROTC at Seneca High School. I am married to a former Lion (Hazel R. Stephens) I have three children. My oldest son Victor Jr. is a Lt. in the Army Reserves, my daughter is married and lives in Charlotte, NC., and my youngest son Darby is a Cadet at USMA, West Point.
I enjoy working with JROTC students. When I can, I am outdoors either jumping from a perfectly good airplane or scuba diving. I also spend some weekends at Mount Yonah in Dahlonega rappelling. I plan on staying busy as long as I can. Especially after I retire--again..
A side note--Remind all 1966 graduates that one of our classmates Donald Johnston was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War. Also, if anyone has any information on John Preston ('65) I ran into him at a hot dog stand in Cam Ram Bay in 1971.
