I was at Baker only a few months. Like many of the students there, my dad was military. I attended school at Fort Benning for 4 years (grades 5-8) so I was familiar with many of the people in my class.
My brother, Richard A. (Gus) McLeod, attended BHS for 2-1/2 years and would have graduated in 1970.
My sisters, Melly and Jenny also both attended BHS. Melly left BHS but graduated in 1974, as did Jenny (graduated a year early).
I attended UGA but graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1978 with a BS in Biology (focus on Botany and Ecology).
I was married in 1981 to Jeff De Backer, whom I met in Athens, GA while my sister Jenny was attending law school there. We have one child, a boy, born in 1994. We've lived in Atlanta, Atlantic City, Chicago, Columbia, SC and now Savannah.
I have been a landscaper, legal secretary, ecological surveyor, office manager for a political consulting firm, assistant to a professor of ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina, assistant to the chair of liberal arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and presently the controller for the food service company at SCAD.
