What a surprise to hear that BHS was alive and well on the web!
I was one of the misbegotten souls that had to face the closure of Baker. After spending three great years as a Lion, our class was forced to relocate throughout Columbus and graduate elsewhere. Most of us followed our teachers to Carver, but a few ended up at Columbus, Jordan, Spencer, etc.
I don't think any of us really accepted that Baker was gone. I know at Carver's 92 graduation, one of the teachers brought all of the native Lions little blue and white flowers to carry with us through the ceremony.
Most of us went on to college. I graduated from UGA (Go Dawgs!!!) in 96 and accepted a commission into the Air Force as a Lieutenant. I am presently assigned to the 35th Fighter Wing at Misawa Air Base in northern Japan doing what we can to keep Southeast Asia in check. My tour here is about up and I am looking at heading to England or Germany next.
But I've never forgotten Baker. My all time most memorable moment was back in 1991 when Baker won the Bi-City Championship and beat rival Kendrick High School at Kinnett Stadium 12-7. That was also the night most of us found out that Baker would be shutting it's doors at the end of the school year. You don't forget things like that.
I look forward to hearing from any of the 92 grads. Send a message if you can.
